Every skin in CS2 has a hidden number called Float Value that determines exactly how "new" or "worn" it looks. Understanding float can save money or help you find rare skins.
What is Float Value?
Float Value is a number between 0.00 and 1.00 that determines a skin's visual condition:
- 0.00 = Newest possible (fewest scratches)
- 1.00 = Most worn possible (most scratches)
Conditions and Float Ranges

|---|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00 - 0.07 | FN |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07 - 0.15 | MW |

When Float Matters Most
✅ Matters a lot:
- Doppler/Fade knives: Scratches are very visible
- AWP Dragon Lore: Huge difference on scope
- Expensive skins: Hundreds/thousands of dollars difference
- Collecting: For collectors, float is everything
⚠️ Matters less:
- Cheap skins: Premium not worth it
- Skins that hide wear: Some look good even with high float
- Play skins: If just for playing, FT usually works
Float Trick: Skins That Look Better Than They Are
Some high float skins look like better condition:
"FT that looks MW":
- AK-47 Vulcan FT 0.15-0.18
- AWP Hyper Beast FT 0.15-0.20
- M4A4 Desolate Space FT 0.15-0.20
"MW that looks FN":
- Any skin MW with float 0.07-0.08
Float in Trade-Ups
The Trade-Up system considers float:
- Result skin float = average of the 10 skin floats
- To get low float result, use low float skins
Simplified formula:
Result float = (Sum of floats) / 10 * (max - min) + min
Float-Based Investment
Good buys:
- ✅ 0.00x of popular skins (always appreciate)
- ✅ Blackiimov 0.99x (strong niche)
- ✅ "Best" of each skin (lowest float known)
Avoid:
- ❌ Paying premium for average float
- ❌ Low float on cheap/unpopular skins
- ❌ High float without being collectible
